I booked online and specifically requested a double bed and received confirmation of the reservation. Upon arrival we were allocated a room with two single beds. We were getting married the next day in Gibraltar and this was a very special holiday so we went back to the reception and explained this. The staff told us that there was no alternative room and could not offer an explanation as to why they had confirmed my booking of a room with a double bed. We asked about compensation for the error and were told that they do not give compensation. At no point did anyone apologise, despite us explaining about our special day. An apology would have made us feel more forgiving towards the fact that someone had made an error somewhere. The staff attitude was to shrug their shoulders and give us blank stares leaving it up to us to decide what to do. We decided not to stay and found another place 5 minutes down the road, which turned out to have a far better room and general ambiance around the facilities. I would like to stress do NOT book with the Hotel Rocomar as you will not get what you have asked for. We are very experienced at travelling around Europe and have never encountered anything like this before. It was only our experience of travelling that gave us the confidence to be able to seek out another place to stay. I'm sure that less well-travelled people would have had to stay and make do with the situation. The whole incident could have completely ruined what was meant to be one of the most important days of our lives. As it is, it will remain as a memory of what went wrong with our wedding preparations.
