I am not sure how they choose the locations for Holiday inn Express, but this one is so tucked away in the centre of Croydon, and in such a maze of one way streets, that you need a good map ot be able to find it. My guess is they fly over places in a helicopter looking for parcels of land with no visible access, then build the hotel and leave the public to find a way in.
Once you have mastered the maze and got to reception this hotel has all the virtues its brand is known for. Clean, bright, decent sized and well equipped rooms. Ideal for a one or two night stay, but not the place for your annual two week holiday. The rooms have TV's that allow you to surf the Internet, but at almost £10 for 24 hours the local Internet Cafe is cheaper. There is no parking, and although there is a car park quite close by it shuts at 10 p.m. and the one that is open all night has a £16 charge for a day, and is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Continental breakfast is complimentary, beverages coming out of machines, cereals and croissant in plentiful supply.
The staff were friendly and helpful, in as much as I needed to talk to them. The fire alarm going off at 06:45 was an unwelcome distraction, but at least it showed it worked.
