A lovely old building, steeped in tradional English Coaching Inn ambience, the sort of place that you can imagine Squire Weston searching through when in pursuit of his errant daughter. The stone flags in the public areas look as if they have been worn by centuries of guests feet. In other words this is the real McCoy. As with many other privately owned historic hotels change takes time, and upgrading is undertaken slowly. It means that they don't get wrecked, but it also means that the standard of the rooms can be a bit of a lottery. The bedroom I had was tired, but everything worked, and for one night I was happy to be there. The dining area had recently been refurbished and I expect other bedrooms may have been more modern.
The location is ideal, everything in Glastonbury within walking distance and fronting right on to he main shopping area. The car parking is very limited, but as there is a large municipal car park behind the hotel, and with very reasonable rates, this isn't a problem.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and we got a decent meal in the bar after arriving quite late. All in all an enjoyable stay, albeit not in state of the are facilities.
