This pleasant hotel is marred by piped music (muzak) in the reception area, bar and restaurant. In general, the staff were friendly and welcoming. The reception area is nicely done, with big sofas around a real log fire. Unfortunately, though, it was impossible to sit and read there...the pan pipes drove me back to my room! The rooms are a good size, but the zipped-together mattresses used to produce a King-size bed are a real irritation (that ridge is not comfortable!). Our room was at the back of the hotel. It was quiet, and had a pleasant view over the fields. Oddly enough, the more expensive rooms overlook the carpark at the front, and have sloping ceilings over the windows. The food is reasonable, but there is little choice if one is trying to follow a sugar-free diet (there was fat-free yoghurt and low-fat milk, but no sugar-free breads, cereals or jams for breakfast, for example...so I brought my own muesli!). The leisure centre is OK. I would recommend this hotel if they stopped using muzak. |
