| The kings arms hotel dates back to the 18th century, when it was a coaching inn known as the hotel on hide hill. The ground floor and gardens of the old town assembly rooms were stables and accommodation. The hotel had famous visitors such as writers charles dickens and lewis carrol. By the end of the 19th century, the kings arms became central to the town's social life and was a base for the merchants and traders of the former corn exchange at the bottom of hide hill. Into the 21st century, the hotel has resisted urges to sell to popular pub, restaurant and tourist chains. Instead, the management have focused on maintaining the kings arms as an independent townhouse hotel. If you are looking for a weekend 2-night stay, there are sometimes special offers running on certain dates. There also have weekly 7-night stay rates. |
