| The monumental building of vischpoorte is situated in the heart of the old town centre, a stone's throw away from the river ijssel. This is a historical place that was visited by merchants from all over europe, who entered the village via the ijssel through the so-called vischpoorte, the city gate. The gate was named after the nearby fish markets, where fresh and salt-water fish were sold. This is one of the oldest (dating back to the turn of the 14th century) and most important gates of the city. |
