In indonesian alam sari means natural essenceand thats what alam sari wants its guests toexperience. We not only want our guests to experience it, weare committed in many other ways to preservingthe natural, cultural and social environment ofbali. At alam sari we have used the natural products ofbali and indonesia wherever possible naturalrubber mattresses on our beds, handwoven balinesecotton for our furnishing fabrics, indonesianbatiks and teak furniture, bamboo and lontar palmleaf lamp shades, coconut wood pillars andoriginal indonesian antique furniture and worksof art make our decor uniquely indonesian. Ourgardens overflow with glorious tropical plants,flowers and trees of every sort. We treat our waste in ways that do not pollutethe environment. Our waste water is treated in animported eco system that breaks waste downbiologically thus ensuring no waste water orsolids go to ground or pollute the environment. In fact the treated water is used on our gardens. Waste food is given to local farmers as animalfood, bottles, paper and plastic are recycledwherever possible and other waste is disposed ofresponsibly. Our water is solar heated, we use no aerosolsprays, we use gas in our kitchen and no msg orother artificial flavourings are used in ourcooking. Much of our furniture is made from kaji mastimber which grows on the indonesian island ofsumbawa. There it grows rapidly in the managedtropical forest whose concessionaire responsiblymills 6000 trees per year and replants many moreso the resource is sustainably harvested andresponsibly managed. We employ on our permanent staff many people fromnearby villages and in addition the live musicplayed and traditional massages offered areprovided by local villagers who also sell us someof the fresh fruit and vegetables we use.
